Young leads Thigpen in race to be Bills' backup

Vince Young may be pulling ahead of Tyler Thigpen in the race to be the Buffalo Bills' backup quarterback to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Young was 8 of 14 for 123 yards in the Bills' 36-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings Friday night, prompting Gailey to tell the Buffalo News, "You'd have to say Vince came out a little bit ahead tonight."

Thigpen probably wasn't helped by the fact that he threw a pick-six late in the game by Vikings linebacker Audie Cole, who later returned a Brad Smith pass for another touchdown.

Bills coach Chan Gailey, according to the report, has praised Young after each of the Bills' preseason games this year. Perhaps that is because Young's numbers have been adequate. Or perhaps Gailey knows Young has a history of having very thin skin when facing criticism and adversity, and that's a can of worms he'd rather not open in Buffalo, given VY's rant against Jeff Fisher that ended his time in Tennessee.
