Rivalries Galore in this Weekend’s Top College Football Games
With another weekend approaching, another slate of primetime college football matches are right around the corner. In the spotlight this weekend are games that feature in-state rivalries such as Michigan vs. Michigan State, undefeated major conference battles between LSU and Florida, historic rivalries like Notre Dame and USC, and many more. One way of determining the weight of a game is seeing what fans are paying for tickets to those games on the secondary market. According to TiqIQ.com, the game between Michigan and Michigan State at The Big House is the most expensive college football game of the weekend with an average ticket price of $324.33 and a get-in price of $191. Michigan is making a fast turnaround under head coach Jim Harbaugh and only has one loss on its resume to a top-five ranked Utah team. Michigan State remains undefeated and doesn’t want their National Championship aspirations to be ruined by its greatest rival. Following closely behind as the second most expensive game is when the LSU Tigers host the Florida Gators. LSU and leading Heisman candidate Leonard Fournette will welcome a Florida team that is surprisingly undefeated at this point in the season. The average ticket price is $319.18 with a get-in price of $129 for entrance into Tiger Stadium. In the Big Ten, the defending National Champions host Penn State at Ohio Stadium for the third most expensive game of the weekend with an average ticket price of $295.32 with a get-in price of $99. The SEC has another primetime matchup as undefeated Texas A&M host the Alabama Crimson Tide at Kyle Field with an average ticket price of $268.10 and a get-in price of $116. Lastly, to round out the top-five, Notre Dame and the USC Trojans play for the Jeweled Shillelagh at Notre Dame Stadium with an average ticket price of $ 267.43 and a get-in price of $119. Of the teams playing in the top-five most expensive games on the secondary market, it’s interesting to note that Florida is among the top-selling college sweaters team according to merchandise sales provided by Tipsy Elves. Their line of eye-catching college sweaters are unique merchandise in the collegiate space, and designed with the popular “ugly sweater” theme in mind. Florida is ranked No. 4 on Tipsy Elves’ top selling team sweaters list, behind Florida State, Kentucky and Tennessee. Other teams in the top-10 of Tipsy Elves sales include the Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 6, Michigan Wolverines at No. 7, and the Penn State Nittany Lions at No. 8. While there is not a direct correlation to apparel sales and ticket prices, there does seem to be a tremendous amount of interest in a number of the top teams, which has manifested itself in higher ticket prices and increased merchandise sales.
