San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith has been added to the active roster as the team lifted its roster exemption.
Smith is no longer on the reserve non-football injury list.
Smith did five weeks in a rehab facility for alcohol treatment following a driving under the influence arrest.
Smith is dealing with felony weapons charges.
"I'm getting there," Smith told The Associated Press this week. "Every day's just a step closer to getting to where I want to be. I've gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, organization, teammates and everything. And it really says a lot that people care about me outside the field and they care about me as a person."
