As if it wasn’t bad enough the Houston Texans dropped a heartbreaker to the visiting Oakland Raiders on Sunday, now the organization must find a way to move forward without one of their integral defenders.

Mario WilliamsMario Williams and his five sacks are heading to IR.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, outside linebacker Mario Williams has been lost for the season due to a torn pectoral muscle.

The injury is a devastating blow to an improved defense that currently ranks seventh in the NFL in both total defense (314.0 yds/gm) and points allowed (19.0 pts/gm).

A two-time All Pro selection at defensive end, Williams is currently tied for fourth in the NFL in sacks (5.0).

The Texans will likely turn to rookie second-round pick Brooks Reed (Arizona) to fill the void.
