A decade is a long time to spend with an organization.
But it’s not as long as Brad Maynard hoped to spend with the Chicago Bears. Instead, the free-agent punter has been informed he isn’t in the club’s plans. Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reported the news. The Bears are expected to start their pursuit for a replacement with Steve Weatherford. The club also has Richmond McGee under contract.
Maynard never made a Pro Bowl with the Bears, but he was a steady performer and handled the windy conditions at Soldier Field well. His directional kicking style meshed well with the team’s coverage unit. The 37-year-old hopes to continue playing for several years and one possible landing spot will be with the Washington Redskins.
Maynard is second all-time in the NFL with 407 career punts inside the 20-yard line.
