Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he broke his thumb during Sunday's 24-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, but said he expects to play when the Steelers return from their bye week to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
The injury is on Roethlisberger's throwing hand, and it remains to be seen whether the injury might severely affect how he throws the football.
It has already been a rough week for quarterbacks in the NFL. Houston's Matt Schaub and Kansas City's Matt Cassel are feared lost for the season with injuries, while Philadelphia's Michael Vick suffered broken ribs on Sunday.
The good news for the Steelers and Roethlisberger is that he does have a bye week to allow some time for healing.
