The Arizona Cardinals placed rookie tight end Troy Niklas on injured reserve.

He has a sprained ankle.

Niklas was replaced on the roster with veteran tight end Matthew Mulligan.

Mulligan has 16 career receptions and is a strong blocker.

Mulligan has previous stints with the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams and New York Jets.

Niklas broke his finger during the offseason.
