Indianapolis Colts running back Delone Carter has been ordered by a court in Syracuse, N.Y., to pay $40,000 plus medical expenses to a man he punched in 2010, per the Post-Standard in Syracuse.
Carter punched William "Jay" Hotaling in a February 2010 incident after Carter thought Hotaling had thrown a snowball at his SUV. Carter and two other men got out of the vehicle and Carter punched Hotaling, knocking him out, causing him to fall on a sidewalk and suffer facial fractures. He was awarded the $40,000 for "pain and suffering," but a claim for punitive damages was dismissed.
Carter entered a guilty plea in Onondaga Criminal Court in 2010 on a charge of harassment.
