The Houston Texans, who have yet to reach the playoffs in their history, are off to a 2-0 start.
A victory over their in-state rivals the Dallas Cowboys could catapult them into the national spotlight and strengthen their position as formidable competition for the Indianapolis Colts, who they soundly defeated in Week 1, in the AFC South.
Yet however you slice this one, it’s a bigger game for the Cowboys, who will limp across the heart of Texas with an 0-2 record and some serious doubt. How serious?
“Everybody's talking about the Cowboys in the Super Bowl,” safety Gerald Sensabaugh told Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. “We ain't won a damn game yet. I don't even want to hear nobody talking about the Super Bowl. Really, can we just talk about the next game? There's too much hype.
“There seems like there's brain farts everywhere. Everywhere, everybody, last week, this week. What are we doing? What is this? We look like a circus, like a bunch of clowns out there. I don't know what the hell we're doing.”
Wow.
Some have been critical of the team’s preparation. The Cowboys practiced in their stadium last Friday when some fans were present. That’s directly on owner Jerry Jones, the man who’s PR machine cranks out the hype and ridiculous expectations for this team on an annual basis.
Now, coach Wade Phillips says it’s difficult to sleep at night. You bet it is when the pressure is on you to play in the Super Bowl in your own building and you’re suddenly 0-2. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they won’t see the team in Houston many have come to know. The Texans are playing well and this is a big task for the Cowboys.
