The Philadelphia Eagles have been upfront when discussing the possibility of trading Kevin Kolb, something they’ll have more difficulty doing if there isn’t a change in the labor impasse before the end of this month.
The team is also out beating the bushes looking at young quarterbacks who could presumably take his place on the roster even though the Eagles already have former Northwestern product Mike Kafka behind Michael Vick, who has been secured with the exclusive rights franchise tag.
According to Adam Caplan of FoxSports.com, the Eagles have recently put TCU’s Andy Dalton and Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick through private workouts. Both passers have been gaining some traction heading toward the draft while some of the top prospects have been picked apart by analysts.
Eagles coach Andy Reid was in Green Bay when the Packers made a habit of bringing in young quarterbacks almost annually. If the team can flip Kolb for a first-round pick, they’ll need another passer on the roster. But the Eagles have substantial needs, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, and it would be somewhat surprising for them to use a high pick on a reserve quarterback.
