The Atlanta Falcons fired coach Mike Smith today.
Smith went 1-4 in the playoffs.
This time, the Falcons didn't qualify. They went 6-10 for their second consecutive losing season under Smith.
"Smitty's contributions to our club, team and city over the last seven years are numerous," Falcons coach Arthur Blank said in a statement. "His accomplishments on the field made him the most successful coach in the 49-year history of the Falcons, and we are grateful for the foundation he has laid for us for the future."
The Falcons lost 34-3 Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Falcons went 66-46 in the regular season under Smith.
He made the playoffs four times in seven seasons. However, the Falcons won just 10 games in the past two seasons.
