'Tis the season to remember that the NFL is still a brutal business.

On Christmas Eve, the Falcons announced that linebcaker James Anderson has been released. Hey, that's the way it goes sometime in the multi-billion dollar league the NFL has become. At any moment, your contract can end if the team wants to move in a new direction.

By that token, it's hard to sympathize with players cut on Christmas Eve based on the money they receive during the season. Anderson got a month's worth of NFL pay out of the Falcons, which is likely more than a lot of people receive in an entire year.

With Anderson being Scrooged, the Falcons gave a Christmas miracle to running back Jerome Smith, who has been promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
