The Pittsburgh Steelers made official what agent Ralph Cindrich had feared earlier this week about linebacker James Farrior.

The linebacker was released on Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, along with other players whose impending releases had been reported earlier in the week - receiver Hines Ward, guard Chris Kemoeatu and defensive end Aaron Smith.

Farrior was the Steelers defensive captain, while Ward served as offensive captain. Earlier this off-season, the Steelers also released special teams captain Arnaz Battle.
