Former U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones has been appointed to hear the appeal of indefinitely suspended former Ravens running back Ray Rice.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recused himself from being the hearing officer and appointed Jones after consulting with the NFL Players Association.

Jones served in the Southern District of New York from 1996 to 2013. She's now in priate practice.

"We are grateful to Judge Jones for taking on this role," Goodell said. "She will have our full cooperation as she hears and decides this appeal."
