The New York Giants not only lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, they lost wide receiver Ramses Barden for the remainder of the season.
Barden left the stadium thinking maybe he had only a sprained left ankle, but Giants coach Tom Coughlin revealed today that Barden suffered a “significany ligament injury” and a fracture, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
That’s not the kind of news the second-year player needs, not after he was finally getting an opening for some playing time with Steve Smith on the shelf with a partially torn pectoral muscle. Barden will likely be placed on injured reserve. He's a big target who can be a real factor in the red zone, and it's a loss for a Giants team that has done such a good job to this point of weathering injuries.
“He contributed well,” Coughlin said. “Extremely (disappointing). Let’s think of the player first. He had gained some confidence. He was making a strong contribution. What Ramses needs to do is play - - get out there and play.”
Vacchiano speculated the Giants could bring back Derek Hagan, who was with the team during training camp. Stay tuned.
