We can be thankful that when Jared Allen popped off last week he wasn’t serious when he said he’d have to drown himself in the Detroit River if he lived in Motown.

Allen trashed Detroit and New Orleans equally during a regular appearance he makes on KFAN radio last week in Minneapolis. He traveled with the Minnesota Vikings to Detroit this weekend where they lost to the Lions 34-28 at Ford Field.

Afterward, Allen attempted to soften the blow a little bit.

I said it on my radio show, and I was joking," Allen said, according to Eric Lacy of the Detroit News. "That's nothing against the people of Detroit; I just would not want to live here. I'm not a city guy. Take it, I guess, how you will."

The fans let Allen have it on Sunday, according to Lacy, and he’s the kind of player who can enjoy a good back-and-forth with the crowd. Of course, Lions fans did not appreciate his three sacks.

“We're part of a rivalry; I'm not supposed to like Detroit," Allen said, smiling. "That's they way rivalry games are supposed to be. They're not supposed to like us; we're not supposed to like them.”

Allen referred to New Orleans as “third world” and talked about wearing a flak jacket there. Stay tuned for the next time he makes a trip to the Superdome.
