The New York Jets are cleaning house, firing coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik.
The moves didn't come as a surprise.
The Jets were horrible on the field this season, and Idzik was overmatched as a general manager.
Ryan led the Jets to the AFC title game twice, but the Jets never went back to the playoffs after his first two seasons.
Ryan never developed a quarterback who was consistent. He finished 46-50 as a head coach. The Jets are consulting with Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf to look for potential replacements for Ryan and Idzik.
"Both Rex and John made significant contributions to the team, and they have my appreciation and gratitude for their efforts and commitment," owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. "Over the years, Rex brought the Jets a bold confidence and a couple of great post-season runs, which all of us will remember.
"I am beginning our search for new football leadership, effective immediately, with guidance and support from respected football experts, including Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf, two Super Bowl winners with decades of valuable experience."
