The New York Jets have hired Pepper Johnson as defensive line coach.

Johnson was up for the New York Giants' defensive coordinator job that went to Steve Spagnuolo.

Johnson played two years for the Jets.

The former New York Giants linebacker spent 14 years working for the New England Patriots. He spent last year as the Buffalo Bills' defensive line coach.

With the Jets, Johnson will coach Muhammad Wilkerson and SHeldon Richardson and Damon Harrison.
