The Philadelphia Eagles are shaking up the front office as team president Joe Banner will become an adviser to owner Jeffrey Lurie, his longtime friend.
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Don Smolenski will be promoted from COO to president and general manager Howie Roseman will handle a larger role in terms of the team’s salary cap and contract negotiations.
Per the report, the 59-year-old Banner approached Lurie about the shift. Banner will remain with the club but will be free to pursue outside opportunities. Banner would like to be part of a group that purchases a sports franchise.
It removes one of the key decision makers from the process now in the building. Ultimately, that could impact coach Andy Reid, who is returning for a 14th season.
