Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee late in the first quarter of Monday’s loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
While Peppers didn’t miss much time in the game, he was hampered and was largely ineffective rushing the passer. He hasn’t had the success generating pressure on the passer that he did a year ago with just two sacks through five games. But the team did credit him with 15 quarterback pressures through the first four games.
Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reported the injury, and it’s not believed to be serious. Considering he finished Monday’s game, it’s fair to assume he will play Sunday night when the Bears host the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field.
Peppers missed the final two games of the 2007 season in Carolina with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Otherwise, he’s been a model of durability throughout his career.
