The Detroit Lions have released defensive end Ronnell Lewis, a former fourth-round draft pick from Oklahoma.
Lewis played in eight games last season, primarily on special teams.
He ranked behind Jason Jones, Israel Idonije, Ziggy Ansaw and Devin Taylor on the depth chart.
When the Lions signed Rashean Mathis, they no longer needed Hope.
Hope had been working with the second-team defense.
