Upon further review, the San Francisco 49ers will sever ties with Nate Clements.
Rumors and reports mixed Wednesday that the Niners would cut loose the veteran cornerback only for follow-up reports to be sent out saying no decision had been finalized. It’s final now. Clements will be released, probably later today, in a move announced by Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network.
The move clears more than $7 million in salary cap space for the club, and it has fueled speculation San Francisco will put a full-court press on Nnamdi Asomugha. The report indicates that Clements could potentially return at a reduced rate.
