The New England Patriots edged the New York Jets, 27-25, as defensive tackle Chris Jones blocked a 58-yard field goal try by Nick Folk on the last play of the game.

Last year in a loss to the Jets, Jones was penalized for illegally pushing on a field goal attempt last year.

"It's good to feel that ball hitting my hand and it's good to get the win," Jones said. "I just played it legally and did all that I could."

"After what happened last year, I thought it was fitting that he made that play," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said.

The Jets (1-6) lost their sixth consecutive game despite a strong performance by quarterback Geno Smith and 107 rushing yards by Chris Ivory. Smith misfired on a two-point conversion pass after hitting tight end Jeff Cumberland with 2:31 to play to close the gap to two points.

"This is extremely frustrating," Smith said. "I felt it was going to happen for us."
