The Baltimore Ravens have informed veteran running back Willis McGahee and nose guard Kelly Gregg that they'll be released, according to league sources.
The Ravens are also expected to release a few more players.
“We are excited to be back in the business of football and looking forward to having our players back," general manager Ozzie Newsome said in a statement. "With this agreement comes a new salary cap, unlike last season when there was no cap. We will be making a number of roster moves in the next 48 hours that will free up salary cap space. This will give us the ability to make offers to our players we want to re-sign, plus put us in a position to sign free agents from other teams.”
McGahee is a former Pro Bowl selection who was due a $6 million base salary this year and his release will give the Ravens $2.5 million in cap savings.
Gregg is a gritty veteran starter who's the most productive interior defensive lineman in terms of tackles over the past decade.
Gregg might return to Baltimore at a lower salary.
McGahee isn't expected to return, though, as Baltimore is well-stocked at running back with Pro Bowl runner Ray Rice.
