Here we go again.
Just when Johnny Jolly’s case was set to kick off in Harris County, Texas, court this morning, what else?
You got it! Jolly’s case was pushed back again. Not a day, not later this week. Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Jolly’s case on felony drug possession has been reset for July 30. That is not such a convenient date for Jolly, not if he wants to continue his employment with the Green Bay Packers as that is the day players are due to report in training camp.
Whether or not this length delay sets up the possibility that Jolly could strike some type of plea agreement with prosecutors remains to be seen. As the charges now stand – he is accused of possessing at least 200 grams of codeine – he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The case was supposed to start last month, and then was pushed back to last week. Then, it was delayed until today and now there will be a long delay of more than seven weeks before it will start. Jolly is under strict bond requirements and has a tight curfew.
Jolly, a restricted free agent, has yet to sign his one-year offer from the club. At least he's not the only Packer whose off-field behavior is now in question. Brandon Underwood has given him company in that regard.
Stay tuned.
