There was some talk that Cullen Jenkins and Kris Jenkins, free agent defensive linemen, could be united with the same team this season.
That won’t happen now. Kris Jenkins has announced he will retire from the game, according to Seth Markman of ESPN. That takes Kris Jenkins, who turns 32 next month, off the market.
Kris Jenkins was knocked out early last season with the New York Jets when he suffered a torn ACL. A torn ACL in 2009 cost him more than half of that season, and apparently the run-stuffing nose tackle doesn’t want to give it a go again. The Jets released Kris Jenkins in February.
A second-round draft pick out of Maryland in 2001 by the Carolina Panthers, Jenkins was a four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Carolina Panthers and a three-time All-Pro selection. The Panthers traded him to the Jets in 2008 and he was terrific when he was on the field for them, but injuries took their toll.
His younger brother Cullen Jenkins will be one of the most sought-after defensive linemen in free agency.
