Jim Schwartz has settled on a winner.
The Detroit Lions coach has been looking for a name to slap on his upgraded the defensive line – the one that went from loaded to more loaded with the selection of Auburn’s Nick Fairley in the first round.
So, Schwartz took to the Twitter world for some suggestions for his group, that is headlined by Ndamukong Suh and Kyle Vanden Bosch. The winner, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, is “Silver Crush.”
The only problem with that – if you really care – is that it’s a close takeoff of the Silver Rush name the team’s same group had previously when Doug English was in a starring role.
“Acknowledges tradition/history of 'Silver Rush' with slight update," Schwartz wrote on his Twitter account.
“I was a little uncomfortable naming our line,” English told Birkett. “Once it was named, and we were the Silver Rush, we were, and that’s all fine and good, and go print T-shirts and hats, and let’s get it on. But I just, as a player, wasn’t that big on naming stuff like that.”
The bottom line is opposing teams are going to be calling the Lions’ line scary. It was a fierce unit in 2010 when Suh easily captured defensive rookie of the year honors. It’s only going to improve.
