The New York Jets have released veteran linebacker A.J. Edds, according to a league source.

Edds was a backup at all three linebacker spots and was contributing on special teams.

He's played in four games this season.

A former Miami Dolphins fourth-round draft pick from Iowa, Edds has previous stints with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

Edds started during the preseason and recorded 25 tackles.
