San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith has been reinstated from a nine-game suspension for violating the NFL substance-abuse and personal-conduct policies.

Smith is cleared to practice today.

He's under an NFL roster exemption. He's expected to be placed on the active roster soon.

Smith has 42 career sacks.

“We’re not ready to jump to predict that or answer that question," Jim Harbaugh said on Monday when asked if Smith will play Sunday. "Excited to have him back playing football, with the team. I think that’s where the hope, the excitement lies right now.”
