Clay Matthews’ broken thumb puts season in doubt

UPDATE: ESPN is reporting that Matthews is expected to miss a month’s worth of time.

The broken thumb that Packers linebacker Clay Matthews suffered on Sunday could put the remainder of his 2013 season in doubt, according to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The report states that if Matthews needs surgery than a possible scenario exists that Matthews will go on injured reserve and be shelved for the remainder of the season.

However, there is the possibility of putting Matthews on the short term IR as the Packers have not used that designation on anyone yet.

For the season, Matthews has 18 total tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
