The San Francisco 49ers and Michael Crabtree’s agent Eugene Parker have split a Palo Alto, Calif., hotel where they have been meeting according to the Twitter account of Matt Maiocco, who covers the team for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

It is not believed to be a sign that talks have broken down, however. A league source said it’s just a sign that talks have moved elsewhere. It could be that Parker is going to regroup with his client and plot out the next move in negotiations that finally commenced today.

Parker has been meeting with Paraag Marathe, the contract negotiator for the organization, discussing a possible resolution to the situation that has dragged more than four weeks into the regular season. Among the issues being discussed are structure, length and escalator values. Meetings, wherever they take place, could last through the night. It’s unusual for Parker to leave his home base near Fort Wayne, Ind., and it’s believed he is looking to lock up a deal for Crabtree, the 10th pick of the draft.

Just as interesting is the observation by Maiocco that M.C. Hammer (does he just go by Hammer these days?) is in the entourage and was involved in whisking Crabtree away from the property. Insert your own Hammer Time joke here.
