The axe fell Monday at Halas Hall as the Chicago Bears fired general manager Phil Emery and coach Marc Trestman.
The Bears finished 5-11 this season.
Emery was with the Bears for three seasons.
Emery fired Lovie Smith following a 10-6 season. Emery also hired Trestman, which proved to be a mistake. He also erred by signing quarterback Jay Cutler to a huge contract.
The deal was worth $126 million and included $54 million guaranteed.
The defense never really was the same after middle linebacker Brian Urlacher retired. The Bears finished 30th in total defense each of the past two seasons.
