Alabama at LSU betting preview

SEC rivals collide in what looks to be a must-win game for both sides if they want to have even a slim chance at the conference championship game.

LSU may be at home this weekend, but the Crimson Tide have caught the oddsmakers eye as 3-point road favorites.

Alabama is coming off a bye week 6-2 SU and 4-4 ATS on the season. Two weeks ago they crushed Missouri 34-0 as 16-point favorites to snap a three-game ATS losing streak. The Crimson Tide run game paced the offense in the win with 271 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.

LSU is also coming off a bye week and are 6-2 SU and 3-5 ATS in the season. They’ll be looking to rebound from a 38-23 loss to Texas A&M as 1.5-point underdogs two weeks ago. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier passed for 405 yards with two touchdown passes and a TD run, but he also threw three costly interceptions.

Alabama has been a let down on the road lately and have surprisingly lost their last two road games both SU and ATS. The Crimson Tide were favored in both losses. As a road favorite they’re 7-3 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10.

LSU’s loss to Texas A&M snapped a six-game winning streak during which they were 3-3 ATS. At home the Tigers have been unbeatable for a few years with 14 straight wins at Tiger Stadium. During that streak they’re a solid 11-3 ATS. When listed as home underdog the Tigers have been a great bet with a 6-1-1 ATS record in their last eight games.

Last season Alabama defeated LSU 42-28 as 3-point home favorites. In their last 10 games against the Tigers the Crimson Tide are 8-2 SU and 5-4-1 ATS. One consolation for the Tigers, the last time they hosted the Crimson Tide in 2022 they delivered a 32-31 upset win as 13.5-point underdogs.
