Browns Bengals Pick

The Cleveland Browns simply got beat down on Sunday by the Baltimore Ravens. Baker Mayfield struggled, and the whole offense looked out of sync. They will look to redeem themselves against the Cincinnati Bengals, who lost in a heartbreaking fashion 16-13 to the L.A Chargers.

Cincinnati has dominated ATS versus the Browns recently, covering seven of their past nine games. Even with the positive trends in Cincinnati’s favor, I like the fact the Browns covered all three times last season when they were favored by six or more points and have something positive going on Thursdays (7-2 ATS past 9 MNF games).

Why the Browns will cover

Typically, when a talented team like Cleveland loses big, they bounce back the next game. Last year Week 1, the Browns lost big against the Titans, then came right back and won Week 2. The Browns match up well against the Bengals, especially on offense. The Bengals struggled to keep the Chargers running backs in check, as they ran wild for 148 yards.

This bodes well for Cleveland considering they have one of the best 1-2 punches in the game with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Both Chubb and Hunt had good games Week 1, combining for 132 yards. The Browns should rely more on their run game considering their dull passing performance in Week 1. I think the Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski will get more creative with his running backs, which will open up the passing game for Mayfield.

Why the Bengals will cover

Joe Burrow looked good in his NFL debut last Sunday. It didn’t end well for the Bengals as Randy Bullock missed a short field goal to send the game to overtime. One of the under-reported storylines from Week 1 for the Bengals was their pass defense. The Bengals gave Tyrod Taylor fits all game, holding him to 208 yards on under 55% completion percentage.

If the Bengals can make Mayfield uncomfortable, they have a shot at taking down the Browns, which they have done regularly in recent years (9-2 ATS). I’m confident the Bengals offense will move the ball – it will come down to whether their defense can stifle the Browns offense.

New Jersey bettors (SugarHouse Sportsbook numbers) have made Bengals +6 the strongest public side of any game bet with 68% of spread bets tonight, according to their press release. “Despite being the favorites, the public isn’t sold on the Browns.”

Browns Bengals Pick

I am heavy on the Browns in this one. The Browns are simply too talented to go down 0-2 this season and this is a perfect matchup for them to bounce back. It’s a new season but Cincy’s terrible road run (0-12 SU) and 3-22 SU streak overall looks like it will continue another week.

I’m expecting a high-scoring game, so take the OVER 43.5 and take Cleveland to cover -6.
