Patriots Jets Picks, UNDER Thursday Night

The Jets have been bad for so long that its amazing to think this is just the third time in nearly a decade they have been favored by a TD.

But Aaron Rodgers is in town now and so are the lame New England Patriots for the Week 3 Thursday Nighter. However, even when the Pats are bad, they still beat the Jets as their 15-1 SU mark indicates. They have also won 8 in a row here at the Meadowlands.

New York has some defensive injuries that will impact this game on a short week.

Patriots Jets Picks: Odds NYJ -6.5, Total 37.5 | Matchup Report

Why the Patriots can cover the spread

Head coach Jerod Mayo has the Patriots playing hard, even while they lack talent. And they have a long history of pounding the shit out of the Jets.

Their defense will battle hard against a Jets offense that hasn’t looked sharp at all through two games. In addition to head-to-head superiority, the Pats own the edge ATS going 10-3 in the past 13 meetings.

They have also punched above their weight on Thursdays, winning 15 of 20 games SU.

Why the Jets can cover the spread

The talent gap is substantial here and the stadium should be rocking for Rodgers real home debut. After rallying against the Titans and escaping with a win, this game is important to get a roll through a soft part of their schedule.

Rodgers receiving talent should give him the edge here against a scrappy defense. And their defense should be able to stifle the Pats, despite Jacoby Brissett’s connection with Hunter Henry so far.

We don’t see a high-scoring game here but the number 7 isn’t always lucky for bettors.

Patriots Jets Pick

It would be hard to bet against the Jets in their home opener in a game they should win, but we are avoiding the side bet here. We like the UNDER here as the last four meetings all played easily UNDER with three of those games UNDER 25.5. A lot of expert commentators are picking OVER, which also gives us some comfort betting UNDER.
