A Big Ten matchup highlights the college football schedule this weekend when the No. 3 ranked Nittany Lions play host to the No. 4 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.
Penn State may be ranked slightly higher and playing at home, but they’re 3.5-point underdogs.
Ohio State is 6-1 SU and 3-4 ATS on the season. They’re coming off a close 21-17 win over Nebraska as 25-point favorites. Quarterback Will Howard passed for 221 yards with three touchdowns, including the game-winning toss to Quinshon Jenkins with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Penn State is a perfect 7-0 SU this season with a lackluster 3-4 ATS record. Last week they defeated Wisconsin 28-13 as 6.5-point favorites. The win didn’t come without a cost though, as starting QB left the game late in the first half with a knee injury.
So far, Penn State has been silent on Allar’s status for this weekend but missing him would be big blow to the Penn State offense.
The Buckeyes haven’t been kind to bettors when playing on the road lately. In their last 10 road games they’re 2-6-2 ATS. As a road favorite they’re also 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10. Two weeks ago, they were road favorites against Oregon and fell 32-31.
Penn State is typically a tough matchup at home, with five straight wins and 12 wins in their last 13. However, those numbers change dramatically when the Nittany Lions are listed as home underdogs. As home ‘dogs they’ve lost six in a row SU with a 2-4 ATS record.
Last season Ohio State defeated Penn State 20-12 as 4-point home favorites. In this matchup the Buckeyes have dominated for years with seven straight wins, but they’ve been a bad bet at 2-5 ATS. In their last eight trips to Penn State the Buckeyes are 7-1 SU and 4-4 ATS.
