The scrimmage on Saturday gave hope to many Hokie fans. The first team offense looked fantastic moving the ball down the field against the always formidable first team defense. Micheal Brewer returned under center after missing last week with a back injury, and he put in a solid days work. Brewer threw 5 touchdowns on the day with only fourteen attempts from the backfield. Brenden Motley split time with Brewer, but he was overshadowed by Brewer's fantastic performance. Motley did have two impressive runs from the backfield, and possibly look to see an increased role as a run only quarterback this fall.
Brewer looked calm, and in control Saturday behind center. It seems that he is benefiting from a full year with the team because the timing on his passes was very impressive with his young receivers. He has a young, talented receiving corps around him with Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips on the outside and the towering Bucky Hodges at tight end.
Cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson were not playing, but Brewer's performance will boost moral of Hokie fans none the less. Blacksburg hasn't had a high powered offense in quite some time, and if Brewer continues this form into next week and the Spring game, Hokie fans have something to look forward to in the fall.
