The Arizona Cardinals have deactivated running back Jonathan Dwyer after he was arrested for domestic violence this week.

“We became aware of these allegations this afternoon when notified by Phoenix police and are cooperating fully,” the Cardinals said in a statement. “Given the serious nature of the allegations we have taken the immediate step to deactivate Jonathan from all team activities. We will continue to closely monitor this as it develops and evaluate additional information as it becomes available.”

Dwyer allegedly was involved in an incident with his wife in July.

According to reports, the wife kept records of her injuries.

KTAR in Phoenix reported that Dwyer was pulled of practice and questioned by police.

He was charged with aggravated assault and preventing someone from calling 911 in a domestic violence incident.

Dwyer has rushed for 51 yards on 16 carries in two games.
