5-star 2023 RB Reuben Owens decommits from Texas

Reuben Owens, a five-star running back prospect in the Class of 2023, announced his decommitment from Texas on Thursday.

He committed to the Longhorns on Feb. 25 but since received offers from Alabama and Texas Tech. He made unofficial visits to Alabama and LSU this spring.

Owens, from El Campo, Texas, said he has not ruled out joining coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

“There is a lot to carefully evaluate especially this early & now I see that, although Univ of Texas will be one of the programs I will consider, I am officially decommitting & reopening my recruiting campaign,” he tweeted Thursday.

The 247Sports composite ranks the 5-foot-11 Owens as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 24 player overall. He currently has 25 offers, including at least one from each of the Power Five conferences.
