Big Ten betting highlights opening NCAA football odds

Big Ten betting is back and that is great news for college football odds watchers in a week that boasts four Top 25 matchups.

Starting off the ranked matchups is No. 2 Alabama at No. 18 Tennessee. Alabama opened as a 20-point road favorite. Alabama has dominated on the road against Tennessee with an 8-1 record against the spread in their last nine. [ Alabama vs Tennessee Matchup Report ]

The second ranked matchup this week is No. 20 Iowa State at No. 7 Oklahoma State. The opening odds listed Oklahoma State as a 4-point favorite. The third ranked matchup on tap this week is No. 8 Cincinnati at No. 17 SMU. Cincinnati may have the higher ranking but they opened as a 1-point underdog. Cincinnati is 4-1 ATS in their last five games on the road. [ Cincinnati vs SMU Matchup Report ]

Big Ten betting resumes

The last ranked matchup is in the Big Ten where No. 19 Michigan begins their season against No. 24 Minnesota as a 2-point road favorite. Michigan has been a tough bet on the road at 3-7 ATS in their last 10, while Minnesota is 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

The largest spread on the board this week when odds were posted was in the Syracuse and Clemson matchup. Clemson, the No. 1 team in the nation. opened as a 38.5-point favorite. That may not be a difficult cover for Clemson who are coming off a 73-7 rout of Georgia Tech.

There is also a 30-point-plus spread in this week’s Mercer at Army matchup. Army began the week as a 31-point favorite.

With the Big Ten set to begin their season this week Ohio State are 26-point home favorites versus Nebraska. Against conference opponents Ohio State have won 15 straight with a 10-5 record ATS, and against Nebraska they’ve won five in a row at 4-1 ATS.

The opening odds in a few other Big Ten games this week include Rutgers at Michigan State (-15.5), Penn State at Indiana (-6), Iowa at Purdue (-3), and Maryland at Northwestern (-8).
