Coastal Carolina hoping QB McCall can play Saturday
Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell is holding out hope injured starting quarterback Grayson McCall will play Saturday when the No. 20 Chanticleers visit Georgia State.
McCall, a redshirt freshman, missed last week’s 28-14 victory over Georgia Southern with what the team said was an upper-body injury.
Chadwell said he is “cautiously optimistic” McCall will be available. If not, junior Fred Payton will draw his second straight start for Coastal Carolina (5-0).
“(McCall) has still not been able to practice in a full capacity yet so we’re cautiously optimistic that’s going to happen but also preparing like it’s not,” Chadwell told reporters. “Whoever plays will be ready to go this Saturday.”
Payton passed for 252 yards and three touchdowns against Georgia Southern. However, he also threw two interceptions.
McCall has been superb for the Chanticleers, passing for 930 yards and 11 touchdowns against one interception.
