College Football Line Moves – Week 1

College football line moves are the best indicator of how the pros and the wagering public are betting the game. In Week 1, the biggest move was the ACC clash between the Syracuse Orange at North Carolina Tar Heels.

See our comparative NCAA football odds here at NFP for the latest numbers.

When the oddsmakers set the line for this one, the Tar Heels were a 15-point favorite. Check in now (at BetRivers Sportsbook) and the line has shifted by more than a touchdown with North Carolina listed as a 23.5-point favorite. (In case you were wondering, UNC hasn’t lost in 20 games when favored by three TDs or more, but are just 11-9 against the spread in those 20 games.

Notre Dame vs Duke Line Move – Not!

Other notable ACC matchups on the weekend schedule have barely seen any movement since the line was set. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish opened as 20.5-point favorites against the Duke Blue Devils and at most books they currently sit as 20-point favorites. When favored by 20 points or more Notre Dame is 3-4 ATS in their last seven games.

The No. 1 ranked Clemson Tigers began the week as a 31.5-point favorite against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Not surprisingly the money is tilting toward Clemson with the Tigers now listed as a 33.5-point favorite. The Tigers have won 11 straight against the Demon Deacons with a 6-5 ATS record. That includes a 2-4 ATS record in their last six matchups.

There’s only been a one-point change in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the Florida State Seminoles matchup. The Seminoles opened as an 11.5-point favorite and currently sit as 12.5-point favorites.

Army opened at -16 and were listed Thursday night at -21 against Louisiana Monroe.

Matchups involving small programs

Looking outside the ACC matchups, the most notable change is the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks opened as 3.5-point favorites and that spread has grown to a touchdown as they’re currently listed at -7.

Bettors may want to take note that Kansas is 1-8 SU and 4-5 ATS in their last nine, and when favored they’re 1-6 ATS in their last seven.

Finally, the Texas State Bobcats started out as 6.5-point favorites versus the UTSA Roadrunners. The current line has the Bobcats pegged as a 9.5-point favorite. In their last three games against the Roadrunners the Bobcats are 0-3 SU and 1-2 ATS.
