Duke CB Gilbert declares for 2021 NFL Draft
Oft-injured Duke cornerback Mark Gilbert declared for the NFL Draft on Monday, opting out of the rest of the ACC football season.
Gilbert was an All-ACC selection after his sophomore season in 2017 but a dislocated left hip in an early September game cost him the rest of the 2018 season and a chance to enter the 2019 draft. He missed the entire 2019 season as well and returned to play for a short time this season before deciding to prepare for the draft.
“After an amazing return to the field for the first time in two years, I have finally had the opportunity to let it all sink in,” Gilbert posted to Twitter. “I have decided to opt out of the 2020 season and declare for the 2021 NFL Draft.”
Gilbert wasn’t expected to play again this season after foot surgery on Sept. 22.
Gilbert recorded an interception on Sept. 19 against Boston College. He recorded six interceptions in 13 games and 15 passes defensed in 2017, earning All-ACC honors.
