Georgia starting LB Adam Anderson faces rape allegation
Police in Athens, Ga., are investigating Georgia senior linebacker Adam Anderson on an allegation of rape.
ESPN reported that the football program suspended Anderson indefinitely.
As of Thursday night, Anderson has not been arrested, and he has denied the allegation through his attorney.
A police report was filed last Friday afternoon outlining the allegation. A woman told police that she went to a house in Athens after having some drinks and awoke to nonconsensual penetration.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart released a statement Thursday confirming the university was aware of Anderson’s situation.
“We don’t comment on law enforcement matters, but I’ve been clear about the high standards we have for our student-athletes on and off the field,” Kirby said. “I will be working closely with our administration to ensure we cooperate fully with all law enforcement and campus protocols.”
Anderson played in No. 1 Georgia’s 34-7 win over Florida the day after the police report was filed.
Anderson has 32 tackles and leads the Bulldogs in sacks with five.
