Iowa State star RB Breece Hall declares for NFL draft

Iowa State two-time All-American running back Breece Hall announced Saturday that he is entering the NFL draft and skipping the school’s Cheez-It Bowl contest against Clemson.

Hall rushed for 3,941 yards and a school-record 50 touchdowns in three seasons with the Cyclones. He also set a school mark with 56 total touchdowns and set an NCAA record by scoring at least one rushing TD in 24 straight games.

Hall rushed for 1,472 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. He added 36 receptions for 302 yards and three scores and was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.

“Playing for Iowa State has been nothing short of a gift,” Hall wrote in an Instagram post. “The last three years, this team has defined five-star culture and I could not be more grateful to be a part of that. …

“After much praying and discussion with loved ones, I have decided to forgo my remaining eligibility and enter the 2022 NFL Draft. While this decision has not been easy, playing in the NFL has been a lifelong dream of mine.”

Hall is expected to be the first running back drafted.

Hall’s 3,941 career yards are second in Iowa State history behind Troy Davis, who gained 4,382 yards from 1994-96. Davis was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016.

The Cyclones (7-5) play No. 19 Clemson (9-3) on Dec. 29 in Orlando, Fla.
