Kentucky QB Terry Wilson to transfer

Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson, who has thrown for 3,440 yards and rushed for 1,015 yards in 25 games over three seasons, intends to play his final season after all, but at a different school.

Wilson took to social media Monday night to say that he will enter the NCAA’s transfer portal but added, “Thank you, Kentucky. It’s been a good ride.”

The announcement was a bit of a surprise because Wilson had said previously that he would not use his final year of eligibility.

A blanket waiver for players who elect to transfer eliminates the typical one-year waiting period to play for a new team.

In 10 games this season, Wilson completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 1,191 yards and seven touchdowns. He was intercepted four times. He also rushed 104 times for 424 yards and five scores.

Wilson ends his run at Kentucky with a record of 17-8 as a starter.

In 2018, his first year for the Wildcats, Wilson completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,889 yards and 11 interceptions, although he was picked off eight times. He piled up 547 yards and four scores on the ground.

With Wilson’s departure, the Wildcats will turn to sophomore Joey Gatewood and freshman Beau Allen to compete for the starting quarterback job next season.
