LSU DB Vincent opts out of 2020 season

A second player from the defending national champions is opting out of the 2020 season.

LSU defensive back Kary Vincent Jr. is opting out of his senior season in Baton Rouge to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. Vincent becomes the second LSU player to opt out of the upcoming season for reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We feel that it is in my best interest to opt out of my final year at LSU and begin training for the NFL Combine,” Vincent posted on social media. “I have worked long and hard for the opportunity to play in the NFL.

“I’m humbled and excited about attacking this next challenge with humility, integrity, and dignity. I will always be Forever LSU.”

Vincent joins defensive tackle Neil Farrell, another Tiger who opted out of the season almost two weeks ago — though Farrell tweeted he will return to Baton Rouge for the 2021 season. LSU, which posted a 15-0 season in 2019, won the CFB Playoff in January.

Vincent, at 5-foot-10 and 189 pounds, started at nickel safety in each of the past three seasons for LSU, and was expected to be a starter again in 2020. Last season, Vincent was the Tigers’ main nickel safety and logged eight starts while finishing second on the team with four interceptions.

Vincent was a four-star recruit in 2017 and signed with LSU after receiving offers from nearly every program in the SEC including Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The Port Arthur, Texas, native was ranked the No. 22 cornerback in the 2017 recruiting class by Rivals.

The SEC is still pursuing its 10-game, league-only season that is scheduled to begin on Sept. 26.
