LSU’s Brennan doubtful to play against No. 10 Florida

LSU quarterback Myles Brennan likely will be sidelined Saturday when the Tigers meet No. 10 Florida.

Coach Ed Orgeron said Wednesday that Brennan was doubtful for the game as he felt the lingering effects of a hit he took on a play near the end of the first half of LSU’s loss to Missouri last weekend.

Brennan stayed in the game and was 29-of-48 passing for 430 yards and four touchdowns in the 45-41 loss for the defending national champions (1-2). He didn’t practice Tuesday and won’t on Wednesday, Orgeron said.

With 1,112 passing yards, Brennan is second in the SEC behind K.J. Costello (1,168 yards) of Mississippi State. His 11 touchdown passes are second to Florida’s Kyle Trask (14).

If Brennan is unable to play, either T.J. Finley or Max Johnson, both freshmen, will get the call. Johnson is the son of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brad Johnson.

Whether the game is played as scheduled in Gainesville, Fla., remains up in the air, however.

Florida announced Tuesday it was pausing football activities amid a surge in positive COVID-19 tests. While the school didn’t state how many players were affected, ESPN reported Wednesday that the Gators had 19 positive tests.
