NC State LB Acceus (medical reasons) to miss season

North Carolina State senior linebacker Louis Acceus will miss the 2020 season due to medical reasons, the school announced Monday.

NC State coach Dave Doeren said during a video press conference that the decision isn’t related to COVID-19. Doeren said Acceus will work as a student coach this season.

“As much as it hurts to give up the game I love, I’m glad that I’ll still be a part of the program and be out there with my brothers,” Acceus said in the news release.

Doeren said it was tough to know Acceus wouldn’t be able to continue on as a player.

“It’s hard to see any player not be able to play the game he loves so much, but it’s especially hard when it’s a player like Lou who has done everything right and contributed so much to our team,” Doeren said. “I’m glad that he will continue to be a part of the program as a student coach and even though his journey has taken a different course, I know that he will be successful in life.”

Acceus missed the final four games of last season due to injury. It wasn’t immediately clear if that unspecified injury played a part in the situation.

Despite missing one-third of the 2019 season, Acceus still finished fourth on the team with 50 tackles. He had seven tackles for loss (including 4.5 sacks) while starting eight games at weak-side linebacker prior to the injury.

Overall, Acceus played in 32 games (nine starts) for the Wolfpack.

Also, senior cornerback Chris Ingram (knee) will miss Saturday’s season opener against Wake Forest. Ingram is still recovering from knee surgery in October. He started the first six games of last season prior to the injury.
