Ohio State limiting capacity to 20 percent

Ohio State is reducing capacity at Ohio Stadium to 20 percent for Buckeyes games this fall.

The athletic department made the announcement to season ticket holders Tuesday, along with other restrictions for fans attending games in 2020 at “The Horseshoe” in Columbus.

There will be no tailgating outside, and face coverings will be mandatory inside the stadium due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. The historic stadium normally holds nearly 102,800 fans for football.

“While no final decision has been made regarding the 2020 football season, the Department of Athletics has been working diligently with university leaders, public health experts and government officials to create game day plans that protect the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, staff, faculty and fans,” the department said.

A new seating plan that incorporates social distancing is in the works.

In the meantime, season ticket holders who elect to opt out for the 2020 season can receive either a full refund or a credit toward future purchases, or they can donate the ticket payments to support student-athlete scholarships.

With the Big Ten moving to a conference-only schedule, Ohio State’s Sept. 4 home opener against Bowling Green was canceled. Currently, the Buckeyes’ first game on the slate is Sept. 26 against visiting Rutgers.
